Medical Center: Community Outreach Health Information System The Boston University Medical Center is proud to introduce the World Wide Web central health promotion and disease prevention resource center, the Community Outreach Health Information System (COHIS). The COHIS organization is a volunteer, non-profit student organization at the BU Medical Center started back in March 1995. There are approx. 125 student members as well as physicians, faculty and other departmental figures at BU Medical Center. There are 11 subcommittees which keep up to date with the medical information to keep you up to date. There is also a team that goes out into the communities to educate people on how to use the Web and the COHIS system. Access to the system is provided by local community centers, schools and libraries in and around Boston. Features include: 1. 11 health topics: AIDS/HIV, Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, Environmental Hazards, Infectious Diseases, Nutrition, Partner Violence, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Smoking and Tobacco Abuse, and Teen Pregnancy/Maternal & Neonatal Health. The information provided is very easy to read and understand. It is well organized by making use of the most most current HTML extensions. It uses compact graphics to convey information and you'll also find use of medical images provided by physicians and specialty departments of BUMC. 2. An on-line Journal of Community Health: For topics that we didn't cover as an entire site, they are talked about in this journal, where the articles are written by medical students and physicians for the general public to read and understand. For example, International Travel and Health, Osteoporosis, Medicare and Medicaid etc. 3. COHIS Kid's Corner: This section makes use of mascots and cartoons to deliver health information to kids. The information includes second hand smoke, lead poisoning, excessive sun exposure etc. It also provides for a forum/bulletin board for kids to use to communicate with each other. 4. Physician On-Line Bulletin Board System: if you have any health related question, ask the medical students and physicians of BUMC. The message is anonymously posted on the bulletin board and then is replied to not only by the staff here at the center, but also other users of the system. 5. Patient Case Records: read first hand patient case records for each of our 11 topics which are introduced on the system after our teams interview patients at the associated hospitals. 6. HealthSource: if you are tired and sick of searching for a health topic using search engines, use this comprehensive, well organized part of the system to find health resources on the net. Each site is reviewed by our teams before it is added so you don't get access to useless information. There are also links to sites in different languages, spanish, french, german etc. 7. VRMed: The site provides medical VRML models of all kinds for you to enjoy and explore. Submitted By: Deb Erdmann Fantasy Sports Leagues Haven't you always wanted to participate in a fantasy league but then you find out that it is going to cost you? I got so sick and tired of that, I decided to start my own "business." This is not like any other business because the only requirement needed to be a member of FSL is you have a E-mail account. The leagues are FREE! Yep. No cost to participate in a league. All I ask is that you put time into your team because no one wants to be in a "dead" league. Visit the FSL homepage and experience a whole new world. URL: http://members.aol.com/dgilmour95/private/fsl.htm This site is friendly to all browsers.
